This document describes the core capabilities of nomad labs pty. ltd. in the Geospatial domain

Open Source Geospatial Software Training and Education

nomad labs provides consulting and turn-key solutions based on the following technologies. We also promote OSS in the wider community by giving hands-on courses and workshops on the use of these technologies in government departments, NGOs and not-for-profit ogranisations.

  • PostGIS is a spatial extension to PostgreSQL an industrial strength Open Source Object Relational Database. It supports more spatial predicates than Oracle Spatial.
  • MapServer today has become the de facto application server for distributing Spatial Data on the web.It is mature, robust, and performs exceptionally well under high load. It has support for over 60 raster data formats including proprietary ones such as ECW. It can connect to virtually any relational database for vector and attribute data input In comparisons with ESRI’s ArcIMS it has a smaller memory foot print and out performs it.
  • GeoNetwork is a reference implementation of the OGC’s Web Catalogue services. It allows spatial metadata entry and management via web portal. It also has metadata harvesting capabilities from other metadata catalogues.
  • Expertise also exist in: Geoserver, OpenLayers, GDAL/OGR

About GeoLabs

GeoLabs is the Spatial team at Nomad Labs. We love all things spatial and particularly like the idea of spatial analysis on the geoweb. We also tend to use a lot of open source GIS in our work. Yey! to the open source. Other than that we love dynamic languages, open RESTful API's and beautiful code and thoughtfully designed software. All things that we try to adhere to in our work.
